Garage Inc. iPad Game Review

Garage Inc. by Breakthrough Entertainment is a time management based puzzle game that has a wonderful Gangster infused story. The game takes place during 1920’s when  the great depression and prohibition are just part of life.

Story:

The story follows an Italian immigrant in Chicago, Angelo Marito.  As he looses his job during the depression he struggles to take care of his family in the 1920’s.  He strikes a bargain with the Mob for a loan to start a car garage.  This ends up not going so well for Angelo as he learns quickly paying back loans to the mob is very costly.

Game Play:

The game play is a pretty standard time based puzzle game.  You have a garage with a limited amount of bays.  You have different customers that come in with different problems.  You will need to diagnose the problem then fix them as quickly as possible.  The strategy comes in by picking the right person for the job.  You can also hire different experienced workers to work in your garage to repair the issues.  The objective of the game is to make money to payback your loan to the mob and build up your garage and reputation.  To move the characters you select them by touching them then touch where you want them to go.  They will perform the task needed as long as they are the correct mechanic.  This sometimes proves tricky selecting the correct character and correct spot for them to go.

Graphics and Sound:

The graphics in this game are cartoony but in a good way.  Even though they are cartoony they really portray a different era and a little dirt and grit of being part of the mob.  The game plays in a 2D style world.  But for me it is the sound that draws me into this time period. The music of the 1920’s sets the mood.  The really good voice acting to go along with the story really motivates me to play through the entire game.

Lasting Appeal:

The story mode will take you a couple hours to finish.  The constant fixing of cars does get a bit boring even though they keep adding new cars to fix and new car problems.  There are a hand full of easy mini games thrown in to help break things up these consist of fixing a suspension or adding armor to a mob guys car.  The other two modes are Night Shift and  Endless Mode.  During the Night Sift mode you can play the mini games without playing the garage mode. Endless Mode is just as it sounds you fix cars in the garage as fast as you can when 3 people walk out because it took to long to get service the game is over. But neither of these modes will have me coming back after if finish the story mode.  Unless you do like comparing your scores with your fiends in Game Center.

Final Thoughts:

If you enjoy a good mob story and like some time management puzzle games I can say you should give this game a try.  My only complaints is the repetitive game play and controls are not as fine tuned as they should be. But at $1.99 at the time of this review its not a bad price for some good entertaining mob action.  If you see this go on sale pick it up immediately.
