iPad 2 coming March 2nd?

Apple is holding an even on March 2nd.  So now its time to guess what they are going to be talking about.

Well there have been multiple sources saying it is the iPad 2 announcement.

Engadget and CNET both say there are multiple rumors confirming the iPad 2 announcement.

This was shortly after a rumor from CNET about iPad 2 being delayed from April till June.

Well I am not sure but I am really hoping for an announcement March 2nd and be able to have an iPad 2 in hand in April.  How about you?

One man's stand against Apple's App Store in app purchases!

There seems to be a new trend in game apps in Apple’s App Sore.  The apps come out and say they are free.  They rise to the top of the free app section with no easy to see signs you have to pay. You can play a level or so but then it stops and says you need to buy the full version. What pay why its free right? A new example of this is Namco’s Ridge Racer Accelerate HD.  Now down towards the bottom left in Top in App Purchases you can see to unlock the full version its $8.99.  This is not easily visible and missed by me most of the time.

Now I have two main problems with this.  One its not easy to see this is a trail version. If you download it and thing your getting the full version you are going to be disappointed that you have to shell out $9 to play more then one level.  They really need to make it easier to see this is a trail version.  Two I am a bargain hunter.  I check web sites like AppShopper.com and Gizmondo’s dealzmodo nearly every day to find sales on apps.  If to buy the app its all in app purchase how will I know when an app goes on sale?  Will apps go on sale as much because the app is already in the Top 10 free app section.

In short this new way of purchasing apps is really making it harder for me to find good deals on good apps.  I hope this trend will not take off, right now I am holding off buying some apps that I would really like because of this like GameLoft’s Sacred Odyssey: Rise of Ayden HD.  Maybe my one man stand against this will change things. (probably not)

Opera Mini Coming to iPad

At Mobile World Conference in Barcelona Opera has announced that Opera Mini will be coming to the iPad very shortly.

Opera Mini features smooth pinch to zoom that is as smooth as Safari browser.  The browser also supports tabs that have previews of the pages in the tab menu.  UI is similar to the Opera Desktop.  The main feature will be up to 90% compression of the web pages on Opera's servers before its delivered to iPad.  This should speed up web page load times on slower connections while saving you bandwidth.  This will be handy on slower and bandwidth caped 3G connections.

Apple iOS 4.3 Beta walkthrough on iPad or iPhone

Apple is getting close to releasing the anticipated iOS 4.3 on iPad and iPhone.
Some of the features include four finger swipe:
4 fingers swipe left and right to swap running applications.
4 fingers swipe up to show task bar.
4 finger swipe down to close task bar.
4 finger pinch to close the app you have open.
You will be able to turn these features off.

The very controversial latch to mute or screen rotation lock will now be your choice.  You will now be able to go into the settings and change how you want the little latch on the side to function!

A big one for the iPhone is the ability to use your phone as a HotSpot.  This is if At&t allow it.

Hope fully there will be more but will report if I hear more.

Angry Birds HD

I like this game and think it is a fun to pickup and play.  Now its not my favorite one of these type of games but i will be playing it for some time. This is one of my wife's and daughter's favorite game.  There are 255 levels so it will keep you busy.

Broken Sword and Broken Sword: The Smoking Mirror HD

I haven't tried this game yet ; it does look interesting but I am not a point and click kind of person.

Announcement of Ipad competitor HP TouchPad - comparison chart

HP today announced the TouchPad.  The new tablet will be using the new webOS 3.0 for tablets.

Let me start of by saying this review may not be looked upon favorably.  But after my review I will post some other reviews so you can see there are different opinions on this game.

Story:

Well not much of a story here but it does have some cute cut scenes that do draw you in.

From what I can gather is there are some birds minding their own business and along come some hungry pigs
that think the bird’s eggs will make a tasty treat.  After the pigs steal the bird’s eggs the birds go into a flinging frenzy to take out those pigs and get their eggs back.

Game play:

Here is where I have my biggest problem with this game.  You will need to launch your bird from a slingshot at the pigs and their structures to cause as much damage as possible to squash those pigs.  Different birds have different powers for example,  standard red birds do moderate amount of damage to everything, yellow triangle birds can get an extra speed boost to break through wood but not good for glass and concrete,

WSJ reports Apple has begun manufacturing IPad 2!

The Wall Street Journal report goes along with some of our earlier rumors that the Ipad 2 will be announced soon and coming out in the next couple months.
Report states Ipad 2 will be sporting a  more powerful GPU along with more memory.  But they are also stating one feature people have been waiting for will be missing, a higher resolution screen.  But the Ipad 2 will contain at least one camera on the front for video conferencing. Also the unit should be lighter (I like this one).

Motorola Xoom taking on Ipad?

Well here goes some more competition to our beloved Ipad.
I have to admit I am looking forward to seeing some more competition and the Xoom looks much more interesting than anything that has come before.
Xoom Overview:
1ghz Dual-Core Tegra 2 processor
Android 3.0 (Honeycomb)
Front and rear facing camers
10.1-inch widescreen display

As owner of an Ipad and an Android phone I still think Android has some catching up to do. Especially in the app department. I am a gamer and that is not a strong suite for Android.

Could this all change with Honeycomb? Well I think it could with some more control over what Hardware and stop the vast fragmentation. But lets see what happens.

Well here is some hope for an Ipad 2 announcement soon. Come on Apple let it knock our socks off.

Macnotes.de tells us that accessory makers are saying Apple as an event next week to announce Ipad 2.
They are also stating that the release could be as early as April with the rest of the world falling 3 months behind.
Rumors are Ipad 2 coming with the new Apple A5 process capable of doing high-def.  Also includes mini display port, shape will resemble ipod touch.

New Ipad 2 Rumors

RFID, Carbon Fiber, and maybe still could be a 7-inch are the new rumors.

RFID could lead to some power saving close proximity communications.  Other than that cant think of much else this could be used for.

Carbon Fiber: I am all about loosing a little weight, and a lighter ipad.  But Apple please don't make it feel cheap. I love holding my ipad it just feels substantial.

7-inch ipad: Well maybe for better portability butI still think the ipad size is right on now. I couldn't imagine trying to fit a 7-inch ipad in my pocket.

Top 5 Ipad Games 2/4/2011

These are the Top games I am playing at this time.

Words with Friends: Always just fun for a quick game of scrabble by pass and play.  But my favorite is being able to play over the internet with friends.  Asynchronously so I can take my turn when I want.  I believe this game I will be playing for a very long time.

Cut the Rope: All though I have finished the game I cant wait for a new gift box for me to master.  Unfortunately you can get through the game quickly its still a blast doing it.





Spider Man HD: This is one of my favorite supper heros so I was stoked to see it come to Ipad.  This game does not disappointed.  The action is great the bosses are fun. The graphics just pop looks great for a comic game. I would recommend this to any action game fans.

Madden NFL:  Well I guess everyone has supper bowl fever so this game is great while we wait.  The graphics look as realistic as I thought would be possible on Ipad.  It updates the rosters over the internet to keep everything current. I love that you can slow down the action its the only way I can win any games.  Football fans get this game.

Life on Ipad: This is not the best for playing by yourself.  But if you have any young kids or just a family that likes board games this is it. Now I love Monopoly but for playing with the family this game is always the choice.
